Benjamin Franklin Peale (APS 1833) was born in 1795 in the APS's Philosophical Hall, where Franklin's father, Charles Willson Peale, ran his museum and lived with his family. Franklin Peale helped run the museum later in his life. Having a more mechanical skillset than his artistic siblings, he ended up working as the Chief Coiner of the U.S. Mint. However, rumors of misconduct led to his downfall and he was dismissed from his position by President Franklin Pierce in 1854. |
