Golden nugget in irregular oval shape, with trace amount of silver and small percentage of iron. A large dent runs down about 3/4 of the nugget on the side. |

Over the years mineralogical specimens were presented to the APS, as was customary for most scientific cabinets. Little remains of the collection, which was given to other institutions over the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1987, the majority of the remaining mineralogical collection was given to the the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia. The provenance of this golden nugget is unclear, as several gifts of gold were recorded during the 19th century. |
