The British Academy was given a Royal Charter by King Edward VII in 1902 so that Britain could be represented at a meeting of European and American academies. It is still the UK’s national body for humanities and the social sciences. The Academy held a centenary conference in 2002, when this medal was given to presenters and presidents of partner academies, including the APS. It depicts Clio, one of the nine Greek Muses, and patron of history. |
