Description |
Half-length portrait of a sitting figure. Chair faces away from viewer, but figure is turned and faces toward the viewer with his right arm resting on the back of the chair. Figure, James Peale, has a fair complexion and white, wispy hair. Peale wears a blue suit coat, striped black and white vest, and a white cravat. In his right hand, he holds a paintbrush and in his left, he holds a paint palette. Behind him is a partially completed portrait of a young woman with light brown hair and a fair complexion with a light blue background set on a canvas. |
