Figure has a rosy complexion, short white hair and wears a white lab coat, blue button down shirt with a blue pen in breast pocket, grey and brown striped tie, and black pants. Inscribed "Albert Murray 1966" at lower left corner of the portrait. |

This portrait was painted by Albert K. Murray, a Cornell graduate known for his work as a combat artist. Painted in the 1960s as part of the initiative to have portraits of every living President of the APS, this painting depicts William Jacob Robbins, President of the APS between 1956 and 1959 and Executive Officer in 1959 and 1960. Robbins, a botanist and physiologist, was director of the New York Botanical Garden and taught at a number of universities. In 1966, Murray also executed a portrait of Leonard Carmichael for the APS (1974.01). |
