This portrait of English physicist and mathematician Sir Isaac Newton was executed by an unknown artist after a portrait by John Vanderbank (also known as Johan Van Der Banck). Newton posed for Vanderbank, an English painter and illustrator of Dutch origin, in 1725. Many others duplicated his portrait, including the unknown artist of a Newton miniature in the APS collection (58.P.61). |
