Eliot Stellar was born in Boston in 1919. After studying physiological psychology at Harvard and Brown, he joined the National Defense Research Council and worked as a psychologist. Later, Stellar taught at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania and focused much of his research on the neuro-biological interactions underlying human and animal behaviors. Stellar was President of the APS from 1987 to 1993. The portrait by 20th-century artist and portraitist Daniel Adel was installed in Philosophical Hall in 1998. |
