Roland Sletor Morris, President of the APS from 1932 to 1942, trained as a lawyer at the University of Pennsylvania and practiced law in Philadelphia. His focus on international law and his role as a leader of the Democratic Party in Pennsylvania involved him in a number of political endeavors. Woodrow Wilson appointed him as Ambassador to Japan from 1917 to 1921, and he went to Siberia on a diplomatic mission after World War I. Another portrait of Morris by artist Cameron Burnside resides in the Theodore F. Jenkins Memorial Law Library Company in Philadelphia. This portrait was commissioned by the APS from Cameron Burnside along with the portrait of Edwin Grant Conklin in 1941 (58.P.20). |
