Description Bronze bust of Benjamin franklin on brass round pedestal. Franklin's head faces left and slightly down.
Label This bronze bust was modeled after the 1793 terracotta figurine of Franklin by François Marie Suzanne, but only depicts head and shoulders. Suzanne's original figurine of Franklin, one of the few of his complete figure, was first shown in 1793 at the Paris Salon, an exhibition of work of the French Academy. Suzanne was a well-known sculptor, who also made figurines of Rousseau and Voltaire. His statue was extremely popular and resulted in a number of reproductions, often varying costume and poses.
